INTERTRIGO
INTERTRIGO
Intertrigo is inflammation of the skin due to two surfaces rubbing together. It often affects skin under the breasts, between the thighs, in the armpits, or between the buttocks. It is more common in people who are overweight.
The affected skin is red and moist, may have an unpleasant odor, is often accompanied by a fungal infection, and may develop scales or blisters.
Sweating makes symptoms worse.
Treatment consists of losing weight, if necessary, and keeping the affected area clean and dry. Topical antifungal and corticosteroid medication may be used to treat any infection and reduce inflammation.
