RHINOPHYMA
RHINOPHYMA
Rhinophyma is a bulbous deformity and redness of the nose that occurs almost exclusively in older men. It is a complication of severe rosacea. In rhinophyma, the tissue of the nose thickens, small blood vessels in the nose enlarge and become prominent, and the sebaceous glands become overactive, making the nose excessively greasy.
Various medications used for rosacea may be tried for rhinophyma, but they are rarely effective, and in most cases surgery to remove the thickened skin and reshape the nose is the recommended treatment.
