DEVIATED NASAL SEPTUM
DEVIATED NASAL SEPTUM
With a deviated nasal septum, the partition that separates the nostrils (which is called the nasal septum) is shifted to one side.
A deviated septum may be present from birth, or it may result from an injury to the nose.
A mildly deviated septum does not usually cause any problems. However, a severely deviated septum may impair breathing and cause snoring. It also increases the risk of developing sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses).
Treatment for a deviated septum is usually not necessary. If the condition causes breathing difficulty or recurrent sinusitis though, surgery to straighten the septum may be advised
