Composition
Each tablet contains: Mebendazole 100 mg.
Also SUSPENSION, each teaspoonful
(5 ml) contains mebendazole 100 mg.
Indications
Mebzol is mainly indicated for the treat ment of single or mixed intestinal nematode infections caused by threadworm pinworm (Enterobius vermicularis), roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), whip worm (Trichuris trichiura), and hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Side Effects
Mebzol is usually very well tolerated. Rarely, gastrointestinal disturbances including transient abdominal pain and diarrhea have been experienced, particu larly in patients with heavy intestinal infection. Hypersensitivity reactions including exanthema, rash, urticaria, and angioede-ma have rarely been reported with use of mebendazole.
Precautions
Pregnancy and Lactation
Pregnancy: Since mebendazole crosses the placenta, caution is recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Therefore, it is generally advis able to use mebendazole only if the bene fits to the mother justify the potential risks to the fetus. Lactation: It is better to exercise caution when mebendazole is prescribed to nursing women as it is still not known whether it is excreted in breast milk.
Drug Interactions
Metabolism of mebendazole may possibly be inhibited by cimetidine. Therefore, upon concurrent administration, plasma con centration of mebendazole may be increased.

Advice
Mebzol tablets may be chewed, swal
lowed whole, or crushed and mixed with
food.
No special procedures (e.g. dietary restriction or fasting; use of laxative or cleansing enemas) are required before, during, or immediately after treatment with Mebzol.
Common Dosage Regimen
Adults and Children Over 2 Years
Threadworm/pinworm infection (entero biasis): 1 tablet or teaspoonful (5 ml) suspension given as a single dose. If re-infection occurs, a second dose may be needed after 2 – 3 weeks.
Roundworm (ascariasis), whipworm,hookworm, and mixed infections: 1 tabletor teaspoonful (5 ml) suspension twice daily (morning and evening) for three days.
Children below 2 years: Not recommended.
