Composition
Acyclovir 5% w/w; cream, ointment.
Indications
Mild to moderate initial and recurrent herpes simplex (HSV-1, HSV-2) skin infections.
More severe infections may need systemic treatment. Used as adjunctive therapy to improve cutaneous healing of localised herpes zoster in immunosuppressed persons being treated systematically with treatment regimens for herpes zoster.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the product.
Precautions
Not intended to be applied to mucous membranes: mouth, eye or vagina. Topical use is considered safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Dosage and Administration
Adults and children: Apply to affected area(s) five or six times daily (every 3 or 4 hours) for a period of 5-10 days Sufficient quantity of cream/ointment is applied to cover lesions adequately. Therapy should
be initiated as early as possible following the onset of signs and symptoms.
