Composition
Suspension: 200 mg/5 ml.
Tablets: Acyclovir 800 mg.
Indications
Treatment of initial episode and management of recurrent, severe herpes genitalis infections; prevention of frequently recurring herpes genitalis infections; treatment and prophylaxis of zoster infections (shingles); treatment of varicella infections (chickenpox); prophylaxis and treatment of initial and recurrent mucocutaneous herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients.
Dosage and Administration
Adults
Genital Herpes
Initial Episode: 200 mg every 4 hours, 5 times daily (omitting the night dose) for 10 days. Recurrent infections: 200 mg every 4 hours, five times daily for 5 days.
Chronic Suppressive Therapy: 400 mg twice daily, or 200 mg two to five times daily.
Herpes Zoster: 800 mg every 4 hours, five times daily, for 7-10 days.
Mucocutaneous Herpes Simplex 200-400 mg five times daily for 10 days.
Adults and children Treatment of Varicella: 20 mg/kg, up to 800 mg/dose, four times daily for 5 days.
