Understanding Conflicting Drug Interaction Data

Sometimes different authoritative sources (FDA vs DrugBank) may report opposing effects for the same drug combination. This can occur due to:

Time-Dependent Effects

Some drugs initially inhibit an enzyme (acute effect) but induce it after prolonged use (delayed effect).

Enzyme Subtype Specificity

A drug may inhibit one CYP enzyme subtype while inducing another.

Concentration-Dependent Effects

Low doses may induce while high doses inhibit, or vice versa.

Clinical Approach: When encountering conflicting data, monitor therapeutic response closely, check drug levels when available, and consult clinical pharmacology resources.
