Composition

Each tablet contains: Indapamide 2.5 mg.

Indications

Indanorm is indicated for the management of essential hypertension.

Contraindications

Indapamide should not be used in any individual with recent cerebrovascular accident or severe hepatic impairment.

Precautions

Regular monitoring of plasma potassium and urate concentration is usually recommended in elderly patients as well as in those with hyperaldosteronism, gout, or with concomitant administration of cardiac
glycosides.
Thiazide diuretics may decrease urinary calcium excretion and cause a slight and transitory rise in plasma calcium; therefore, indapamide should be used with caution in patients with hyperparathyroidism and
treatment should be discontinued if hypercalaemia occurs.
Renal impairment: Indapamide should be used with caution. Deterioration of renal function usually necessitates withdrawal of treatment.
Thiazide and related diuretics are fully effective only when renal function is normal or only minimally impaired (plasma creatinine below levels of the order of 25 mg/l, i.e. 220 pmol/l in an adult). In elderly, this plasma creatinine must be adjusted in relation to age, weight and gender.
Thiazide and related diuretics are ineffective in patients with moderately impaired renal function; therefore, their use should be avoided in such patients.
Hepatic impairment: Indapamide, as with other thiazide diuretics, should be avoided in patients with severe liver disease.
Coma may be precipitated in patients with hepatic impairment as a result of potassium depletion (hypokalaemia); therefore, potassium-sparing diuretics can be used as an alternative to thiazide diuretics in such patients.
In patients with alcoholic cirrhosis, the risk of hypomagnesaemia is usually increased.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Pregnancy: The use of thiazide diuretics during the third trimester of pregnancy may precipitate neonatal thrombocytopenia.
Lactation: indapamide is only excreted in an amount which is too small to be harmful to the infants. However, large doses may suppress lactation.

(2.5 mg) in the morning.
