Mode of action
Non-absorbable sugar. Osmotic laxative; it draws water into the faeces, has lubricating properties and may also act as a stimulant by its local irritant effects.

Constipation.
Adverse effects
Infrequent: rectal discomfort.
Rare: rectal mucosal erosion.
Dosage
1 suppository once daily when required.
