Eventually, it bursts and infected material leaks out, which may then lead to peritonitis. <br \/> The first symptom of appendicitis is usually vague discomfort around the navel. <br \/>  Within hours, this develops into severe pain in the lower right side of the abdomen.  <br \/> There may also be nausea, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea.
