A polyp is a small swelling that develops on the membrane covering the vocal cords. As it grows, the polyp may develop a small stalk.<br \/> A nodule is a small, calluslike lump on the vocal cords. Both polyps and nodules are usually caused by overuse of the voice, and both produce similar symptoms.
