Kawasaki disease is an illness that most commonly affects children under 5 and causes a prolonged fever. The cause is unknown. As well as a fever lasting 1 to 2 weeks, symptoms include sore eyes, cracked lips, and swelling and reddening of the hands and feet followed by peeling of the skin on the toes and fingers.
Most children recover completely with treatment.
