Uterine polyps are painless growths attached to the inside of the uterus. They may occur singly or in groups, and typically produce bleeding between periods or after menopause, bleeding after intercourse, and heavy periods.
Polyps are usually harmless, but they may occasionally become cancerous.
They may be removed by a minor surgical procedure called a hysteroscopy and polypectomy.
Polyps may sometimes recur, and further surgery may be required.
