Huntington’s disease (also known as Huntington’s chorea) is an inherited brain disorder that causes involuntary, rapid, jerky movements and dementia (opposite). It is caused by an abnormal gene, and if a person inherits the gene from either parent, he or she will develop the disorder.
In most cases, symptoms do not appear until age 35 to 50.
The condition usually progresses for about 10 to 25 years until the person eventually dies.
There is no cure for the condition, but medication may relieve some of the symptoms. Those at risk can be tested to see if they have the abnormal gene
