Barotrauma is damage or pain, mainly affecting the middle ear, caused by changes in pressure.
Such changes are common when flying or diving, and may cause minor damage to the middle ear, producing pain, a feeling of fullness in the ears, and tinnitus (ringing in the ear).
Symptoms usually clear up by themselves within a few hours, but in severe cases the eardrums may be ruptured, which requires medical attention
