Composition


Folic acid 1 mg, 5 mg; tablets.


Indications


Treatment, prevention of folate deficiency states.


Side Effects/Precautions


Occasional skin rashes or GIT distur­bances. Diagnosis of pernicious anemia should be ruled out before administering folic acid.


Dosage and Administration


Folicum 5 mg
In folate-deficient megaloblastic anemia:
initially, 5 mg daily for 4 months; mainte­nance, 5 mg every 1-7 days depending on underlying disease.
Children over one year: the adult dose for megaloblastic anemia.
Children below one year: 0.5 mg/kg daily.
Folicum 1 mg
In prophylaxis of megaloblastic anemia in pregnancy, usual dose is 7z tablet daily.
For proven folate deficiency: 72-1 tablet is recommended until a hematopoietic response is obtained; the daily mainte­nance dose is 0.5 mg.
Supplementary nutrition in pregnancy andlactation: a daily dose of 72-1 tablet is rec­ommended.
